Study Plan: Study and document physical features of rhizomes for comparisons and identification.

  • - A comparison of trillium rhizomes and their development (roots and buds) at different times of the year.
  • - A comparison of different species rhizomes and their identification features.
  • - A comparison of buds and offsets from different species rhizomes and their development at different times of the year.


Study Findings: (In Process).
- The first 8 pictures are cuneatums (September 2004) and luteums (February 2004.) The next 8 pictures are summer rhizomes(June-August). The Stamineum rhizomes are October pictures.

Description: The terminal buds elongate in late summer and fall.

Description: The Terminal buds showing Green as they are ready to emerge in late Feb. 2004.

Common Name(s): Bent T., Bent WR, Drooping T., White T.
Location: SE USA
Description: Heavy Sculturing is only on the largest flexipes rhizomes. This is not true in smaller rhizomes.
